Aug 28th

Good job today everyone on celebrating Dr. King's 50th Anniversary of his famous "I have a dream" speech. Today we worked on creating our own "I have a dream" speeches. I am very excited to see how those turn out.

And because we worked so hard in class, as I told you, we will NOT have homework for tonight. So enjoy your break from me and come prepared tomorrow!

Interview a Student Homework

Hi guys,

Today in class most of you interviewed each other asking a series of questions. Well, for HW, you are to create a summary of the interview. Make sure to explain to me the answers of the person you interviewed!

If you already finished in class, then CONGRATS! You don't have any homework with me!

If you need to view the interview sheet, then CLICK RIGHT HERE and scroll to the bottom.

See everyone tomorrow!

Welcome Parents and Students!

TRANSLATE INTO SPANISH ON TOP!

Parents and Students,

Hello! My name is Mr. Rivera and I will be your child’s 7th grade Language Arts and Social Science teacher this year. I have created this webpage as a way for everyone to communicate with each other so you can see what your child is learning when at school. I will be posting weekly assignments, homework, and any announcements I have. This way, in case a student forgets what pages are for homework, I will be able to remind them on here!

7th grade is such an important year for them. High schools begin to look at a student's grades, as well as their attendance and behavior records. And because of that, I want to make sure that they get the best education Pickard can offer, as well as you, the parents, being kept aware of certain information.

Parents-

1. Attendance is so important. If a child is not in school, then they obviously can not learn and they will be playing catch up the rest of the year. If for some reason a child has to miss school, please provide a detailed note with a phone number so I can get in contact with you to double check. It is very important that we have an open communication together.

2. Every 5 weeks, the school will be sending home official progress reports to inform you of how your child is performing at school. In addition to these reports, if your child is in danger of failing or simply not performing how I feel they should, I will also be contacting you.

3. If you need to contact me for anything, you can do so ANYTIME and I would be happy to discuss anything with you. Communication is key!

Students-

1. We will go over specific rules in class, but understand that I expect your best behavior. You will be graded on your school work, your homework, and your behavior in the classroom. Respect for me, each other, but most importantly, YOURSELF is the most important thing. If there are issues, I will discuss with you 1on1 first, but if that does not work, a phone call and a parent-teacher-student meeting will take place.

2. Please come prepared every day. This means notebooks, paper, pencils, pens, homework, and of course, a positive attitude.

Everyone-

This school year is very important but that does not mean that we will not have fun. I love what I do, and I love being at Pickard. I am excited for the year and for getting to know all the wonderful families here.

Thank you and let's have a FANTASTIC year!
